What is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is the foundation of your 'core'. It is comprised of muscles that travel from the pubic bone to the tailbone; these act like a sling supporting your pelvic organs, allowing you to control your bowel and bladder, and are important in sexual function as well as stabilizing your low back and hips. Pelvic floor muscles are also integral to posture and breathing.
What can a pelvic floor physical therapist do?
Pelvic floor therapists are trained in the evaluation and treatment of pelvic floor function through manual therapy, soft tissue mobilization, education, and neuromuscular re-training. Our pelvic floor therapist assesses the entire body when treating the pelvic floor, and considers the activities and demands that each individual asks of their body, and how pelvic floor function may be impacting this.
We create a one-on-one, personalized approach to addressing pelvic floor dysfunction, as it should never be a 'one size fits all' plan. Our mission is to help you manage and overcome pelvic floor dysfunction so that it no longer holds you back from doing what's important to you!
